Munaqsri Senior Apartments
The XYZ Senior Center was established in Nome in 1970 to provide needed services for the city’s elders. These services have been an will remain free of charge.
Hot meals are available to seniors at the XYZ Center Monday through
Friday. They can also be delivered to home-restricted elders.
Simple Assistance - The XYZ also provides transportation to and from the XYZ, community functions,
shopping, recreational activities such as sigh-seeing in the country, berry picking and green leaf gathering.
Adult Day Care & Respite Center - Located on the second floor of the XYZ Center, elders can find a homey atmosphere which allows for visitation, crafts, exercise or outings with friends. Lunch is provided. To see if you qualify for this program, please call to set up an appointment.
Breakfast Club - Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays upstairs of the XYZ Center breakfast is served.
The Munaqsri Senior Apartments are ehousing for the elderly and disabled, consisting of 16 handicap-accessible apartments and a common recreation area.
Note: Although located in Nome, Munaqsri Senior Services serves the entire Bering Straits Region, with the help of Kawerak’s Vocational Rehabilitation Program.
Lending Closet - Senior Services’ growing lending closet which contains resources for clients, family members and caregivers. Movies and books can be checked out as well. Senior Services also has access to Anchorage’s lending closet, which has medical supplies.
Consumer-Directed Services - These services are paid for through the Medicaid Program for low income people who need daily living assistance in their homes. Seniors who qualify may hire, direct and train their own personal care attendant (PCA) at the expense of Medicaid. To qualify, you must be on Medicaid and show a need for a PCA.
“Choice Waiver” Programs - This is also a Medicaid program that is designed to help people over 65 or disabled in their home rather than a long-term care facility such as Quanna Care. This program can help modify a home, build a ramp or hire the help necessary or needed. To qualify for this program, you must meet nursing home level care and be a Medicaid patient.
Caregiver Support - Being a full-time caregiver can be extremely challenging. NCC provides resources and support for all its caregivers, as well as a phone-accessible family support group.
