BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB

The Boys and Girls Club of Nome is a safe place that provides snacks, after-school care, tutoring, and valuable educational and emotional support for youth. The Boys and Girls Club serves anywhere from 30 to 50 youth each weeknight. The youth of Nome benefit from building healthy social connections.

Boys and Girls Club is open Monday through Friday for youth ages seven to 18 years old. Regular activities include Power Hour (homework tutoring), T.R.A.I.L (diabetes prevention),teen nights, S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), arts and crafts, field trips, Triple Play, cultural activities, games, and more!

An afternoon snack and and a supper meal are served during the school year.  Additionally, summer lunch is served during the months that school is not in session.  Meals are available to all children under the age of 18.

ALCOHOL SAFETY ACTION PROGRAM

All alcohol and drug prevention programs are grant-funded and encourage healthy choices for the future. Some programs are interventions for youth and adults who have been caught using drugs or alcohol, and others are intended to educate kids about the risks before they get involved with these dangerous substances. The goal of these programs is to influence people in a positive way to prevent them from making bad choices.

PRIME FOR LIFE

The Prime for Life program is offered to youth offenders with Minor Consuming charges as well as through Nome Beltz High School Health Class. The program educates youth about decision-making to better prepare them to make healthy decisions regarding drug and alcohol use. Prime for Life focuses on delivering accurate information, strengthening positive personal choices, teaching drug-resistance, supporting change, and planning for success.

PFL is supported by the Alcohol Safety Action Program, which provides for funding through a state grant.

YOUTH COURT

The Nome Youth Court gives first-time juvenile offenders the opportunity to keep their crime off the record by agreeing to go on trial before their peers. The Nome Youth Court is a restorative justice system approach in which sentences focus on rehabilitation and on repairing the damage to the community. These sentences promote responsibility much more than solely serving punishment. The recidivism rate for those who complete their sentence is much lower than those who are at the mercy of the traditional court system.
