Food Bank

“How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.”
— Anne Frank
The Food Bank is open twice each week, offering fresh and canned food for families in need, and many consider it a crucial lifeline. The Food Bank is open every Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30 to 7pm, and volunteers assist with the distribution of food.

Serving the community of Nome cannot be done without your generosity. The Nome Food Bank is made possible by the support of our donors. Any donation is always greatly appreciated. Suggested food items to be donated include: baby food and formula (only if within expiration date), bread, canned goods, hard cheeses, frozen or refrigerated meats/poultry/fish, fruits and vegetables, refrigerated milk, pasta, sugar, flour, coffee, cereal and boxed foods, peanut butter, and rice. Monetary donations are also accepted.

If you are interested in making a donation, please call the Community Center office at 443-5259.

The Food Bank of Alaska provides a receipt for all donations. The 1976 Tax Reform Act allows businesses to deduct costs associated with donating food to nonprofit organizations such as Food Bank of Alaska. Visit the IRS website for more information on tax deductions for charitable contributions (www.irs.gov). The Community Center can also provide a tax-deductible receipt if needed.

If you are interested in volunteering with the Nome Food Bank, please call the Community Center office at 443-5259. The Food Bank is always in need of volunteers!
